Rake Brush Santa

In this skills lesson, Carol teaches you the skill of using a Rake Brush to create hair and fur.

You will need to know the following skills before starting this lesson:

  • How to transfer a pattern
  • You should already have completed some flat brush lessons & basic floating technique

What you will need

General painting supplies…
  • Paper Towel,
  • Wet Palette and water pot
  • White/Black Transfer paper
  • Tracing Paper
  • Black practice paper
  • A4 Black Mount practice board (or similar)
  • Pen/pencil
  • Dotting tool

Brushes…
  • No. 8 & 10 Rake Brush (I use size 10 for the whole project, but if this is your first Rake Brush practice, you may find the number 8 easier for the moustache)
  • Liner Brush
  • No 8 or 10 flat or angle brush for floating colour

DecoArt Americana Paints and Mediums….
  • Lamp Black
  • A bright Red - I used Country Red, but any bright red will work
  • Titanium (Snow) White (again any white will work)
  • Fawn (just a touch of this is added to white for the face, if you already have a selection of Americana colours, then most biscuit or peachy colours will make a nice fleshtone)

Testimonials

Wow, wow, wow, what a fabulous tutorial this is! I have tried many of the Folk It Tutorials now and I just love how clear the instructions are.

In my opinion, this is the most comprehensive video tutorial so far. It comes with a list of everything you’ll need, pattern, step by step worksheets and of course my favourite - the videos!
Although I did not have a rake brush, I was eager to try this out so compromised with an old flat brush. I do think the rake brush will make a difference and have already ordered mine.
I like to learn by watching and then having a go myself. The 6 step video’s are great for that. I actually followed along and just paused where I needed to. Carol is a great teacher!.

I would highly recommend that you have a go at this one, even before the festive season starts!
